Q. How does the system work?

A. It is an online Internet based system which enables a student and a teacher to communicate with each other using an audio conferencing and a shared two-way white-board connection.

Q. What hardware is required?

A. You need a computer running Windows, Mac OS or Linux. A headset with a microphone and a writing tablet are desirable.

Q. Is an Internet connection required?

A. Yes. While a dial-up connection works, a broadband connection improves the experience for students.

Q. What software is required

A. You will need voice software. We typically use Skype – available for free download.  We also use a shared whiteboard software that can be accessed from any browser.   In addition, a recent version of one of the following Internet browsers will be needed – Internet Explorer / Mozilla / Firefox / Opera / Chrome.

If you are using an older version of the OS or the Internet browser, you may need to download Flash; once you have a Skype account, Jupiter2x(Learning) staff can help you with this.

Q. Is a headset required?

A. It is not required, but we recommend it, as it shields the student from external sounds and distractions. A microphone and the computer speakers will also work.

Q. What is a writing tablet, and where can I get it?

A. A writing tablet takes the place of a mouse, and allows you to create free-hand text, drawings etc. on your computer. You can get it at your local electronics store or you can order it through Amazon or other Internet stores.

Q. What level of computer expertise is required?

A. Basic knowledge. If you have used an Internet browser, you can participate in on-line tutoring.
